A Brief History of Stickers<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

From the dawn of time, mankind has looked for some way for a teacher to display to their pupils that they have done something good. It is ingrained in the DNA of each and every one of us. But when did this first happen? Join us in a whirlwind tour of the history of stickers \u2013<\/p>\n

Early man<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ancient Egyptians are thought to be the first users of stickers. Stickers have been dug up, which were made of paper and stuck with a rudimentary glue to other objects. The birth of the sticker can be traced here.<\/p>\n

Stamps<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is probably the first commercial use of stickers. We use postage stamps today to send correspondence to others, but the first stamps were issued by government as proof that taxes or revenues had been collected. This really was an important sticker.<\/p>\n

Glue gum stickers<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first incarnation of the sticker that we would recognise today. It was used in stores to draw attention to a product or improve a brand. In fact, stickers were one of the first uses of branding to differentiate a product from the others on the market in the 1800\u2019s.<\/p>\n

The Avery stickers<\/strong><\/p>\n

The name may not mean a lot to you, but Ray Stanton Avery founded a business on the back of stickers that is now valued at over $6 billion. Not bad for a simple idea. He saw the rise in demand for the stickers above and found a way to mass-produce them and sell to business.<\/p>\n
